AI detection FAQ
Can Google detect AI content?
Quick answer
Google can identify many AI-writing patterns, but it does not penalize content simply for being AI-generated — it rewards helpful, reliable content and demotes low-value, unoriginal content regardless of how it was produced.
Google's guidance focuses on quality and helpfulness, not the method of production. AI-assisted content can rank if it demonstrates expertise, originality, and value; mass-produced AI content made primarily to game rankings is what its spam and helpful-content systems target.
In practice that means AI use is a tool, not an automatic problem or advantage. The risk comes from thin, derivative, or inaccurate content — issues that also affect low-effort human writing.
Reviewing AI-assisted drafts for originality, accurate sourcing, and genuine usefulness matters more for search performance than trying to hide that AI was involved.
